How to take part in the Hawgood family ancestral DNA study
1) Firstly, contact us on admin@hawgoodfamily.co.uk
2) As with all things, there is a cost, and the project cannot regrettably cover the costs for everyone. However, we have negotiated a reduced fee with www.genebase.com. You will need to set up an account (which we can do for you if required), and when ordering the test, quote in the details box ‘20% discount per hawgood family project’.
If cost is prohibitive but you would still like to take part, there may be some funding available (see General fund below), so please email us at admin@hawgoodfamily.co.uk
After discount, the costs are as follows:
44 marker test $159 (£99 approx) + postage
67 marker test $215 (£140 approx) + postage

The 67 marker test is preferred for the hawgoodfamily study as this allows much more accurate estimation of how far apart relatives are. However a 44 marker test would also confirm a relationship, which could be later upgraded to the 67 marker test. For other surnames, a 20 marker test is a possible cost effective solution at $119, in order to establish a link, and this can also be upgraded
3) Genebase will send the testing swab to you in the post. Then return it - it is that simple! The results appear in 3-6 weeks.
Please consider taking part as every result provides more data, new insights, and validates existing data.
General Fund
Contributions to the general fund would be gratefully received and used to assist those members who cannot afford to pay for part or all of the test. Those contributing may choose to have details posted on this site, or to remain private.
